Mean Girls

How the representations affect teenage girls?
The movie mean girls is based on stereotypical views of teenagers and more importantly teenage girls. in the movie all of the popular girls are very skinny pretty and rich and all the nerds and "outcasts" are genuinely fat different looking or poor. i think this is the worst kind of representation of popular vs unpopular because teenage girls who watch these kind of movies get it into their heads that that is the image they have to be if they want to be popular or have a good life, in the movie Regina George comes across as having a perfect life and she has all the other attributes to being popular so when teenagers see this they believe that to be happy they have to be skinny rich and pretty.

How the representations affect societys perception  of teennage girls?
this is also portrayed not just in films but in real life to, the representations of teenage girls can have a dangerous affect on society because being that perfect image is just so unrealistic, but there are girls who try to be like that and can actually put themselves in danger to look a certain way,1 in 4 teenage girls may suffer from the symptoms of an eating disorder. some of these cases are because of the medias portraly of teenage girls. a lot of people do not realise how much pressure that girls can have to look act and be a certain way, even in the movie there is the part when Regina wants to lose 5 pounds and so goes on a diet, when actually katy is giving her bars that make her gain weight and so you see that the fatter regina gets the more outcast and unpopular she becomes so this is also sending a message to the viewers that to be popular you have to be slim.

Reasons for any differences between the representation and reality?
In this photo Regina is trying on her prom dress and she has become to big to fit into the dress and so the shop lady says to her that she can't shop here because its doesn't supply sizes any bigger then 6.

In the movie mean girls another teenager representation is that all popular girls dress slutty. when katy moves from being unpopular to being popular you see her going from wearing jeans and a jumper or long sleeve shirt to short shorts or mini skirts and push up bras with small tank tops this is sending a message to the public that most teenage girls are sluts, affecting girls in society on what they wear because the public can easily make assumptions of them and hurtful judgements.
this film is trying to sell to the public that teenagers are all rowdy and have fun and that things happen in your life when you go to high school, the media is targeting intermediate students and even people who have just started high school to believe that high school can be glamours and dramas and things exciting like that do go on, it is sending the message that they should stay in school or go ot co-ed high schools to experince this kind of holloywood dream high school experince.
